Artist Statement Growing up, I loved stuffed animals. New teddy bears would mangle their way into my house approximately once every week. As well, I was always a fairly active kid who loved playing on the play structure my dad assembled outside my house. Today, I took photos of one of my (many) teddy bears within that very same play structure. The hardest part about taking the photos was getting up to the structure.Beginning, the old stump that had supported me up had now decayed. As well, the wood of the structure itself was growing pretty weak. Eventually I got inside the structure and was able to place my teddy bear in the now bug infested slide. Just as I began taking photos, a bee decided to make its way and caused troublesome havoc. I guess you could say the journey up to the structure was just an overall struggle. However, I made my pictures with as much relevant background noise as I could. Combining my childhood adventures with one of my childhood best friends. Further, the correlation between the background and the object is shown as just like myself, they aren't what they use to be. |
