Portraits
Artist statement I don't cry often, however, in the 6th grade there was nothing more than I wanted than a puppy. Then I had a particular talent for making my parents feel guilty, and proceeded to ball my eyes out every night begging to visit our local Humane Society. It wasn't till about 5 months that we made our first visit. My father was fairly apprehensive of the whole situation and decided to discredit the whole venture. Yet, I endured and we ended up making weekly visits to see the new puppies. Eventually I retrieved my dog, Carly. Within the first day she preceded to go into the corner and wet herself. As well, she decided to eat almost all of our shoes. Today, my dog is one of my closest companions, and always makes me smile.
While capturing the photos of my dog I made sure she was engulfed within the natural light. I framed the photo to show the aspects and colors of her face. The lighting was meant to highlight all of the intricacies which are within my dogs face. As a mutt, my dog tends to be a mix of many different colors, and I tried to show that within the photo. The environment I placed her in made sure to highlight her best features. As well, I used that same environment to have minimal background noise so that my dog could be the main focus. As well, within the colored photo, I used formal balance so that my amazing model could be shown as real. Challenges I tackled were that my dogs isn't necessarily the most compliant. Within the photo I actually think she thought she was being punished. Continuing, I had to make sure to hold my dog still while taking the photo. Nevertheless, after she was happy to be helping out, and I gave her a little dog treat. |
